Get down to the Chi-town Sound… a tribute to Chicago’s legendary record row.

George Daniels started his musical career in an unusual way, as a janitor at legendary Chess Records, where he met and heard artists like Muddy Waters, Etta James and many others. He started his business in 1969 with a record store at 3915 W. Roosevelt Road in Chicago’s North Lawndale neighborhood, a shop that became nationally renowned in hip-hop and soul circles. Over the decades, Daniels has hosted in-store appearances by almost every big name in rap and R&B — Mary J. Blige, R. Kelly and Eminem to name but a few.
Since then, Daniels’ business has continually adapted as he became a high-profile entrepreneur who mentored entertainers like Kelly and Sean “Diddy” Combs. Daniels also became somewhat of a celebrity himself, appearing in Ronald Isley and Kelly Price videos. George’s Music Room was singled out by Chicago’s Mayor Richard Daley as a quintessential Chicago store and offered a space to open a branch at Midway Airport, which it occupied until it’s run ended in 2017.
